SR. MECHANICAL ENGINEERING LEAD

OVERVIEW

Raytech, a Phoenix-based design consultancy, is seeking a senior level mechanical engineer (BSME required) to join its multidisciplinary development team. This position requires demonstrated experience in new product development, mechanical component and system conceptualization, 3D CAD modeling, analysis, reporting and presentation skills.

The successful candidate will act as a program lead for some projects and as a support engineer under other project managers on other projects. Client programs range from analyses and redesign of existing components, to large scale engineering programs.

The qualifications are; BSME, a minimum of eight years experience in new product development, and a strong and broad range of manufacturing knowledge, preferably including – but not limited to - injection molding, sheet metal forming, welding, casting, thermoforming, and machining. Experience with Finite Element Analysis and Injection Molding is a must.


Technical Leadership and Program Management Responsibilities:

• Plan, schedule, organize and manage large and small engineering program activities
• Assist with writing of and preparing budgeting for development proposals
• Participate in new business development activities
• Manage design control and process documentation
• Review designs for manufacturability, functionality, and quality of work
• Manage and track engineering budgets


Engineering Responsibilities:

• Create well executed engineering solutions, designed for selected manufacturing methods
• Develop innovative, feasible mechanical solutions at the component/system assembly level of design and detail these with CAD models and drawings using SolidWorks
• Apply theoretical knowledge of design and electro-mechanical engineering principles using structural and thermal/fluid analysis calculations, Wind Load Analysis a plus
• Plan, oversee and manage prototype build efforts and evaluate designs for improved cost and manufacturability
• Implement product solutions that drive lean manufacturing process and assembly for a mix of high and low volume products in variety of industries: medical, consumer, military, commercial
• Actively participate in team brainstorming sessions with our clients and internal development staff of industrial designers and engineers, user researchers, marketing consultants, etc.


Position Requirements:

• BSME, aerospace or electrical engineering a plus
• 8 to 10+ years experience in product development, preferably in high technology, consumer industries and large structures
• Minimum 3 years SolidWorks and 7 years 3D CAD experience a must
• Experience with FEA, preferably Cosmos
• Proven experience taking product from early concept through production release in a structured development process
• Strong mechanical technical background and solid theoretical knowledge of mechanical engineering principles
• Ability to balance theory with experience and experimentation to solve real world engineering problems and verify potential solutions in an R&D process
• Creative Problem Solving Skills with a history of conceiving non-obvious solutions to complex problems; creating multiple concepts for the same requirements
• Strong technical presentation skills and ability to articulate the project team's work and interact with clients
• Proficient in written and spoken English. Additional languages a plus
